Researchers compared brain activity of eleven very overweight girls to a group of girls with a normal weight. Even at this young age the researchers discovered a decrease of brain activity caused by obesity, which will lead to problems in their development. If this is permanent damage will be investigated further. Once again another reason to start fighting obesity among children.
With JuniorSenior we did a research a year ago on the snack habits and snack knowledge of children 6-14 years old. Children actually do know a lot about it. They do know exactly what is healthy and what is not. Too bad it is so good. Discipline is something parents need to show their children, parents need to be the example. I thought I’d throw in another quiz to test our own knowledge on snacking. You can do the test on the Kaboose website.
Ex-colleague and one of the best and most serious researchers in children’s marketing, Simone de Droog, has finished her report on characters and healthy products. She interviewed more than 200 children between 4 and 6 years old. She showed the banana candy with and without characters. And she showed the real bananas with and without characters. For the candy the popularity did not differ a lot. Children love candy anyway. For the real bananas though the banana with the character was significantly more attractive. This is very good news for greeneries and fruit and vegetable departments in the supermarkets. And also parents can make eating fruit more popular by making it nicer and more playful.
