Children across Europe are being exposed to online threats but remain apathetic to the risks, according to research by EU Kids Online.
The findings, collated from research published in 21 European countries, suggest that social networking is a large part of the problem. Despite the many benefits of social networking, EU Kids Online warned that the phenomenon presents a threat to teenagers’ privacy and well-being.
The research revealed that many young people are giving out personal information online which can leave them exposed to identity theft and abuse.
I am making a list of safe and friendly websites for my two girls where they can socialize in a very nice environment without risks. One of them is Girl Ambition for girls between 7 and 12 years old.
Sir Ken Robinson is a visionair and a creativity expert with a very clear view on our current education systems; “schools kill creativity”. Everybody having and/or working with children should watch this presentation. Because why is being good at math so much more valued than being good at dance or drama. Surprising, because there are so many people making a very good living with artistic professions. My wish for the next generation is to turn schools into talent development centers.
55 million euro will be invested by the EU to make the Internet safer for children. How? The EU will use the money to create software to avoid online harassment and abuse of children’s innocence. Also parents and teachers will be informed about the risks of Internet and what they can do to prevent problem.
More than 70 % of children between 6 and 17 in Europe go online and 50% of the teenagers owns a mobile phone. 54% of the parents are worried because their children are bullied online or by SMS.
