55 million euro will be invested by the EU to make the Internet safer for children. How? The EU will use the money to create software to avoid online harassment and abuse of children’s innocence. Also parents and teachers will be informed about the risks of Internet and what they can do to prevent problem.
More than 70 % of children between 6 and 17 in Europe go online and 50% of the teenagers owns a mobile phone. 54% of the parents are worried because their children are bullied online or by SMS.
Since we live in the south of France (coming from Amsterdam) the quality of the taste of fresh fruits and vegetables has increased considerably. You taste the sun in practically everything you eat. Food in France is very important and at an early age children learn to eat healthy meals. In the schools there are professional cooks and sometimes if you are lucky the cook will learn the children what the fruits of the season are and why it is important to eat them. The fruits of the season and preferably also from the region are healthiest and, because they do not travel far and long, very fresh too. So in Autumn we eat lots of apples, plums and chestnuts.
If children are unwilling to eat fruit (I have experience) you can try out the tips from this Australian website.
I have the feeling the Summer holidays just ended, but here are the Autumn holidays already. Time for some serious walks in the forest. Drag the children away from the TV, computer, Nintendo DS and spend some days outside. Here’s some poetry to make you get in the mood.
Golden and red trees?
Nod to the soft breeze,?
As it whispers, “Winter is near;”?
And the brown nuts fall?
At the wind’s loud call,?
For this is the Fall of the year.
Good-by, sweet flowers!?
Through bright Summer hours?
You have filled our hearts with cheer?
We shall miss you so, ?
And yet you must go,?
For this is the Fall of the year.
Now the days grow cold,?
As the year grows old,?
And the meadows are brown and sere; ?
Brave robin redbreast ?
Has gone from his nest,?
For this is the Fall of the year.
I do softly pray?
At the close of day,?
That the little children, so dear,?
May as purely grow?
As the fleecy snow?
That follows the Fall of the year.
Besides Obesity, ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is likely to become the worlds leading childhood disorder treated with medicine. In England alone more than 400.000 children eat Ritalin to calm them down. In 1993 the number of subscriptions was 4.000. An incredible increase! I cannot but think about the chemicals inside us, I wrote about 2 days ago. These poor children are probably full with them and get fuller by all the junk they get to eat; too many sweets, too much factory food. And the doctors prescribe Ritalin, even more chemicals.
Several researches have shown that Omega-3 helps a lot in combination with the reduction of sugar intake and cures children suffering from ADHD. Children should increase their intake of marine omega-3 fatty acids by eating more fatty fish like salmon, trout, mackerel, tuna, sardines, and anchovies. A marine omega-3 food supplement for children is an option for children who do not like fish or who do not get enough in their diet. This is of course also true for healthy children and adults. One of the best Omega-3 products is available on this WIN website.
